Chicago Soul announces schedule

I had intended to post something yesterday – even had it written. However, I am currently dealing with an outbreak of head lice in my house, which means that for the last two days I’ve been washing everything in sight and not leaving the house for fear of contaminating others, except to go to necessary places like school and work and the drugstore where I buy lice removal kits. Yeah, it’s been great fun. And hasn’t given me much time to do much else.

Last week while I was in Cincinnati the Chicago Soul, our new MISL team, released its inaugural season schedule. Personally I don’t think they should have done this on a Friday; it’s not very good timing as far as getting maximum media exposure goes, as all the local weekly Chicago suburban papers come out a day or two before and TV news and Internet viewership goes down at that time. However, I am a huge soccer fan, so I’m happy to post the information. I’ve followed the Chicago Fire, our MLS team, since the first year, and I’ve been a fan of the Chicago Storm, the indoor soccer team that folded a few years ago, as well as the Chicago Riot, which lasted one season before dying out (sadly).

This time around the Chicago Soul will play out of Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, which is where the Storm played. The 2012-2013 officially begins on Friday, November 2, when the Soul play an away game against the Syracuse Silver Knights that starts a seven-game road trip. The home opener will be Friday, December 7 against the Rochester Lancers, and will feature Radio Disney’s road crew, a parade in honor of local youth soccer clubs, and surprise events and appearances.

Thirteen of the 26 games will be played at home, and tickets are available now through the box office. Parking is free. For information, call 847-805-6633 or visit http://www.chicagosoulfc.com.

I’ll post something more about the Soul after next week’s press conference. I wish its owners, Armando Gamboa and David Mokry, the best of luck, and I hope the team lasts longer than its predecessors.
